Designing a Magnetic Measurement Data Acquisition and Control System with Reuse in Mind: A Rotating Coil System Example

Accelerator magnet test facilities frequently need to measure different magnets on differently equipped stands and with instrumentation. Designing a modular highly reusable system that combines flexibility built-in at the architectural level as well component addresses this need. Specification of backbone system, interfaces dataflow for software components core hardware modules, serves basis building such system. The design process implementation an extensible magnetic measurement data acquisition control are described, including techniques maximizing reuse software. discussion is supported by showing application methodology constructing two dissimilar systems rotating coil measurements, both based same architecture sharing modules many components. first production testing 10 m long cryo-assemblies containing MQXFA quadrupole high-luminosity upgrade Large Hadron Collider second IQC conventional in support accelerator Fermilab.
